Dr. Sharon Morrison, JP, Director General


In August 2012, Dr. Sharon Alicia Marie Morrison, with a sharp focus and quiet efficiency, took on the responsibility as the Director General at the Ministry of Water Land Environment and Climate Change and since 2016 has been appointed the Director General at the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation. Prior to her appointment as Director General, Dr. Morrison served as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development (2011 to 2012) and the Financial Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service (2008 to 2009).

Dr. Morrison worked at the World Bank in Washington DC, USA (2009 to 2011) and while there had the distinguished opportunity to represent Jamaica and the Caribbean Region as the Caribbean Advisor to The World Bank Board of Governors in respect to the environmental and fiscal issues affecting Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Dr. Morrison has also served as a Board Official for the Central Bank of Jamaica and as a member of the Jamaica Fiscal Responsibility Monitoring High-Level Team, responsible for the effective management of the public debt and the monitoring of the financial regulatory systems. Dr. Morrison actually began her career as a Business Education Teacher and later moved into the private sector where she worked in an International Audit Firm. However, her deep passion and love for her country inspired her in 1994, to join the strong cadre of men and women in the Public Sector.

Dr. Morison is an immensely experienced and highly qualified public servant who is a graduate of the Nova Southeastern University, Florida, USA where she attained both a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Dr. Morrison also holds Certification in Finance for Macroeconomists from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Washington DC, USA; Certification in Fraud Examination (CFE) from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Texas, USA; and from Jamaica, Revenue Agent Certification from the Tax Administration Jamaica, and a Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounts and Economics) from the University of Technology. More recently, Dr. Morrison has accomplished a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of London.

Dr. Morrison is married and is the mother of two sons.
