Overview
Land is a key natural resource which is critically important in achieving the socio-economic development of Jamaica and the goal of Vision 2030 of Jamaica being “the place of choice to live, work, raise families and do business.”
The Branches under the Ministry’s land portfolio have responsibility for land administration and management, land use planning, and geospatial data management. They provide policy and procedural guidance in respect of inter alia divestment of Government-owned lands, land acquisition, land administration including land titling, subdivision of land, preparation of development orders, approval of development applications and management of spatial datasets as well as providing training for users of geospatial technology.
The Ministry, through its implementing Agencies, continues to promote various policies, projects and programmes to help individuals unlock the potential of their land resources while also ensuring that Government land resources are allocated for optimal use in the achievement of wealth creation, production, development, growth and security.
The Branch provides: Secretariat support to the Land Divestment Advisory Committee (LDAC), Support in relation to the implementation of projects such as the Houses of Parliament National Heroes Park and Government Campus Project as well as for other UDC projects, Support to the Greater Bernard Lodge Master Plan.
Mission Statement
To coordinate and facilitate the development, implementation and monitoring of policies, programmes, legislative and regulatory instruments, relating to land to foster development of an efficient and effective world class system of land administration and management.
This Policies that guide this portfolio area are: Policy Framework and Procedures Manual for the Divestment of Government-owned Lands, 2015; National Land Policy, 1996.
- Provide policy guidance, strategic and technical support in respect of the
government land administration and management processes including divestment
and acquisition. - Promote the sustainable management, use and administration of Jamaica’s land
resources. - Support policy planning and development through the preparation and
amendment of policies and legislation relating to land management and
administration to boost economic development and the livelihood of citizens. - Monitor the strategic direction of the National Land Agency.
